The useful question is what failed, how much of the route is affected, and what work will restore dependable drainage. A stain, a photograph of slime or the age of the home alone does not settle the repair scope. Ask what is known, what is inferred, and what will only become clear after access is opened. Record those distinctions before comparing prices.

“Replace the drain line” needs a start and an end point

The phrase can mean a short exposed section, a trap assembly, a concealed run or a new route to a different disposal point. Have the proposal identify exactly which portions stay and which change. Replacement may be worth discussing when damage is not limited to a repairable spot, the route cannot meet the equipment’s drainage requirements without substantial work, or access makes repeated piecemeal work impractical. Do not approve a new termination simply because it is easier to reach. The contractor should confirm the permitted disposal route and equipment requirements. A low cleaning price and a higher rerouting price may describe entirely different work. First decide whether the proposed scope addresses the demonstrated problem. Verify drainage after cleaning or piping work

The job is not demonstrated by a dry floor or a restarted thermostat alone.
